A Colorado woman was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the collision that killed a 17-year-old champion cyclist, Magnus White, over the summer.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Yeva Smilianska, 23, for a felony charge of vehicular homicide — reckless, Denver 7 reported. She was arrested by the Longmont Police Department on Tuesday evening.

Judge Zachary Malkinson set a personal recognizance bond for Smilianska at $100,000. She was placed under pre-trial supervision and cannot drive under the terms of the bond.

White was an up-and-coming world-class cyclist. He was fatally struck by a driver in Boulder on July 29 while he was training for the Junior Mountain Bike World Championships in Scotland. He was wearing his Team USA jersey when he was hit.

It is not clear if the suspect stayed on the scene.

The White family released a statement following the arrest. They said the driver "willfully and consciously chose to get behind the wheel of her car, engaging in reckless driving behavior that resulted in the fatal collision into our son Magnus, who was struck from behind and ejected from his bicycle," according to the station.

White and Smilianska were both traveling southbound when Smilianska allegedly made an abrupt right turn and collided with White's bicycle, according to a crash report obtained by the station.

White was ejected from his bicycle. The autopsy report said White's cause of death was blunt force head trauma and the manner of death was an accident.

White has competed in and won multiple championships in cycling. He represented his community and nation at Cyclocross World Championships in January 2023.

His parents said he was very passionate about cycling and tried to "achieve every audacious goal he set for himself," according to the station.
