Lucy Letby Was ‘Playing God’ at Hospital Where She’s Accused of Murdering 7 Babies, Prosecutors Say
During closing arguments Tuesday, prosecutors alleged Letby was 'completely out of control' following the alleged murder of her sixth victim
Lucy Letby, the British nurse accused of murdering seven infants and attempting to kill 10 more, allegedly enjoyed “playing God” at the hospital she worked at in England, prosecutors said.
During closing arguments Tuesday, prosecutors alleged Letby, 33, was "completely out of control" with the "misplaced confidence she could pretty much do whatever she wanted" following the alleged murder of her sixth victim at the Countess of Chester Hospital where she worked as a neonatal nurse, according to the BBC.
Prosecutors said Letby was “enjoying what was going on” with the infant deaths, after she allegedly injected the babies with air, milk, or insulin between 2015 and 2016, per the outlet.
She has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges.
The BBC previously reported Letby allegedly injected two of three newborn triplets with air, killing them within 24 hours of each other.
The victims — referred to Child O and Child P — died in June 2016.
The father of Child O said his son’s stomach swelled prior to his death and "looked like [the film character] ET,” per the outlet.

"You could see his veins were all bright, bright blue,” the father testified in a video played to the court, according to the BBC. "All of them were different colors. It looked like he had really bad prickly heat… you could see something through his veins."
The baby died at 2 days old, and less than 24 hours later, the sibling followed.
Letby is accused of murdering five additional newborns.
She was removed from her duties in the neonatal ward in 2016 and placed on clerical duties as senior hospital staff became suspicious over the deaths allegedly occurring in her proximity, per the BBC.
Letby was arrested on suspicion of murder in 2018 and 2019, but bailed out both times.
She has been in custody since her third and final arrest in November 2020.
Her trial is ongoing.
