A Long Island man, who allegedly threw his girlfriend's body on the side of a highway, was convicted for her 2020 death, the Queens District Attorney's Office in New York said in a press release issued Wednesday.

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Goey Charles, 33, was convicted of murder in the second degree on Nov. 14 in connection to the death of 29-year-old Vanessa Pierre.

The conviction follows charges and surveillance footage depicting how Charles disposed of Pierre’s body on Oct. 23, 2020, on the Horace Harding Expressway in Bayside, Queens New York. She was pregnant at the time of her death.

Surveillance footage used as evidence depicts Charles on the highway with Pierre before removing her from the car and dragging her to the left of the sidewalk, where he left her to die before he drove away.

“Soon after Charles gets out and closes the door behind him, [Pierre] appears motionless and stretched out across the length of the back seat,” the release said, explaining the footage.

“At approximately 4:38 a.m., the defendant is allegedly seen exiting the vehicle and then dragging the pregnant woman’s body out of the car, leaving her on the sidewalk. He then gets back in the car and drives away.”

According to NBC News New York, Pierre’s body was discovered after an MTA bus driver saw an unresponsive Pierre on the ground with a pair of sweatpants wrapped around her neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also confirmed that Charles was the father of Pierre’s unborn child, the release said.

“We achieved justice for Vanessa. The verdict does not bring her back, but it holds her killer accountable. We will be asking the court to send the defendant to prison for a very long time for the brutality and callousness he showed in murdering and abandoning the lifeless body of his girlfriend, the woman who was to be the mother of his child," Katz said in a statement.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly half of all Black women, like Pierre, have been subjected to "intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes."

Data indicates that more than half of all Black women who are murdered in the U.S. are killed at the hands of their intimate partner.

Charles is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 29, and he faces 25 to life in prison.
