LDS Churches in Utah Hit with Rash of Burglaries, More Than 20 Within a Week
Police currently have no leads about who might be behind the break-ins
More than 20 churches in Utah's Salt Lake Valley that are owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have been vandalized in the last week, according to a local media report.
The Herriman, Utah, area, located southwest of Salt Lake City, has seen at least 22 break-ins since Wednesday, according to a report by the Salt Lake Tribune. Some churches had damage from the break-ins, but the only thing stolen of value has been a television.
Herriman police Sgt. Josh Jennings said there are currently no leads about who could be behind the break-ins, but investigators believe they may be related. Church members reported the vandalism, so the timeline of when exactly they occurred is unclear.
“It’s obviously a pretty good rash of them,” Jennings said, as reported by the Tribune. “But at this time, we really don’t have much as far as tips or, or insights on who it might be just yet.”
People with information about the break-ins are encouraged to contact Herriman police at (801) 840-4000.
