A Cary, North Carolina man, who has a history of arrests stemming from his mental health and digital threats, threatened to kill President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former first lady Michelle Obama, among others, according to court documents.

According to WRAL in Raleigh, NC, Kevin Douglas, 46, was arrested in November 2023 at a Cary Extended Stay American hotel and charged with cyberstalking and communication threats. According to court documents, Douglas also threatened to kill former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He used the White House website to submit the threats against the president, vice president, and others in Aug.and Sep. 2023.

Douglas' last mental health evaluation was in 2016. He has been diagnosed with schizophrenia several times, WRAL reports.

His November 2023 arrest stems from a different series of threats Douglas made — this time against children. U.S. Attorney Mike Easley said in a November press conference that Douglas made alarming threats against children by threatening to shoot and kill "30 Mexican children." Those threats, Easley said, were made through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Given Douglas' proximity to a daycare center near the hotel, Easley said the threats "raised our level of concern."

During the raid of his hotel room, law enforcement didn't find guns but did take computers, storage devices, a phone, and a canister of pepper spray. It was later ruled that his threats were not to be believed as credible.

A North Carolina judge later ruled that Douglas was unfit for trial and ordered him to submit himself to four months of treatment for his schizophrenia. He's not due back to court until April.
