Kaitlyn Coones — a former runaway living in a foster home at the time of the incident — allegedly told her 33-year-old boyfriend he had five hours to kill his mom because she was interfering in their relationship, prosecutors said. Cochise County Sheriff's Office

Before she was charged with murdering her older boyfriend's mom, Kaitlyn Coones spent years in foster care in Ohio and repeatedly ran away from home.

The teen has been accused of killing Nicole Jones, the mother of her 33-year-old boyfriend, Jonathon Jones, after he allegedly refused to murder her himself.

Authorities said they believe Nicole’s remains ended up in a Michigan landfill and they do not expect her body to be found.

At the time of the murder, Coones, 17, was a foster child in the custody of Stark County Children Services and was living in a group home. In February, she returned to the home where she lived in Cleveland after running away, according to Cleveland 19 News.

This is not the first time she had run away. According to a complaint filed in Stark County Family Court, she previously ran away from foster homes in Cleveland and Akron.

Coones ran away from the Canton home where she was living in 2020, according to a report on Facebook from Jordan Miller, host on radio show Talk 1480 WHBC.

Coones and Jones allegedly fled to Mexico, where they were arrested May 8, according to U.S. Marshals. Police said Coones confessed to the killing during an interview.

For her alleged role in the murder of Nicole Jones, Coones has been charged with aggravated murder, murder, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.
