A citizen of Israel has been killed by an anti-tank guided missile attack launched from Lebanon which the Hezbollah terror group has claimed responsibility for.

The strike hit an area near Israel’s northern community of Kibbutz Yiftah on Sunday according to Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic-language spokesman, Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee.

“Hezbollah continued to attack Israeli military sites and civilian towns, without distinguishing between civilians and military personnel.” Adraee said on ‘X,’ formerly Twitter. “One of the attacks resulted in the death of an Israeli citizen.”

Hezbollah, when claiming responsibility for the strike, said that it was attacking Israeli soldiers, The Times of Israel reports. In response, the Israeli Defense Force reportedly responded by striking at the missile strike’s source.

Additionally, Hezbollah claimed that its strike was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli airstrike that hit a vehicle and killed a woman and three children. IDF is investigating the claims.

Communities along the Israeli border with Lebanon have reportedly been evacuated due to repeated strikes from Hezbollah. Since Israel was attacked by Hamas terrorists on October 7, Hezbollah has “conducted and overseen daily assaults on Israel’s northern border” The Times of Israel says.

Both Hezbollah and Israel are reportedly attempting to walk a fine line in the area to avoid escalating the conflict. However, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi did say on Sunday that Israel’s military is “ready at any moment to go on the offense in the north.”

“We understand that it can happen, and we trust you that the defense here is strong,” Halevi said, according to the Times of Israel.
