An elite Israeli infantry brigade has taken control of the parliament in Gaza City, raising the country's flag inside Hamas' seat of political power for the first time since the outbreak of the war.

The image, published by the Israeli news outlet Kann, shows members of the IDF's 13th Battalion — which suffered some of the heaviest non-civilian casualties on Oct. 7 — inside the parliament building holding up two Israeli flags.

The photo emerged as Israeli forces touted their advances in the besieged Gaza Strip Monday, just over two weeks after the Israel Defense Forces launched its ground campaign in the war against Hamas.

“There is no force of Hamas capable of stopping the [Israel Defense Forces]," Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said. "The IDF is advancing to every point. The Hamas organization has lost control of Gaza. Terrorists are fleeing south. Civilians are looting Hamas bases. They have no confidence in the government."

The image is also one of several recently shared online of Israeli soldiers raising the flag of Israel while within Gaza.

Last week, a newly released video showed Israeli troops huddling together to raise the flag above a Gaza beach and joining in a rendition of "Hatikvah," Israel's national anthem.

And late last month, Israeli forces raised their country's flag about two miles inside the besieged Gaza Strip in their war against Hamas late last month.

Video that captured that display also showed soldiers holding the flag above a beach – reportedly the first time since Israel's flag flew over the Palestinian territory since Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005.

The photo inside the Gaza parliament showed members of the IDF's 13th Battalion, which suffered a loss of 41 soldiers during Hamas' Oct. 7 surprise attack on Israel, according to YNetNews.com, an Israeli news outlet.

Israeli forces announced several successful attacks on Monday, claiming they killed 21 Hamas operatives "embedded within a group of civilians at the entrance” of the Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City, the second largest hospital on the strip.

Israeli forces also said airstrikes over the previous 24 hours killed several top Hamas operatives, including a battalion commander of the Khan Yunis Bridge's anti-tank system.

Still, Israeli troops have yet to retrieve more than 200 hostages taken by Hamas during the terror group's Oct. 7 assault, that left some 1,400 people dead.

The Hamas-run Health Ministry, meanwhile, has reported 11,000 deaths from Israeli attacks.

Gallant said Monday the IDF had "intensified" its missions against Hamas in the extensive, underground tunnel system known as the "Gaza Metro," where officials believe the hostages are being held.
