California Man Who Spewed Slurs at Hispanic Street Vendors While Throwing Pieces of Concrete at Them Charged With Hate Crime: Authorities
Emanuel Gulakian, 36, has also been charged with battery and assault following the alleged Nov. 1 incident
A California man was charged on Monday with a hate crime after allegedly shouting racial slurs and throwing pieces of concrete at Hispanic street vendors in a rage last month.
Emanuel Gulakian, 36, has been charged with a hate crime, along with battery and assault, following the incident on Nov. 1, according to authorities.
Officers were called to a disturbance around 11:45 p.m. where Gulakian had allegedly "unleashed a barrage" of racial slurs and profanities toward the victims, who were all Hispanic, Glendale police said.
"The suspect then found pieces of concrete in the area and began throwing them at the victims," the department alleged, noting "some of the concrete pieces were as big as softballs."
One victim was struck by a piece of concrete, but only reported minor injuries.
Officers located the suspect in the area and arrested him, before working with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office to file charges.
"The Glendale Police Department reaffirms its commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety and well-being of all community members," the department added.
