Gypsy Rose Blanchard Says Becoming Engaged While in Prison ‘Angered’ Ex Nicholas Godejohn
'Basically, Nick said I was committing adultery... and by God’s law, we were married,' Gypsy Rose Blanchard wrote in her new book
Gypsy Rose Blanchard's ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn was "angered" after learning she had become engaged while both of them were in prison, Blanchard revealed in a new book.
In her e-book, Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom, Blanchard reflected on her destructive relationship with Godejohn, who killed her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, at her behest.
After Dee Dee's murder in 2015, Blanchard and Godejohn were both sentenced to prison, with Blanchard being freed in December after serving eight years, while Godejohn received a life sentence.
While both were in county jail, Blanchard said she and Godejohn tried "to hang on to what I thought was a bond of forever love and deep intimacy."
"We’d leave secret letters to each other in the recreation room, sometimes even writing on the walls 'NPG luvs GB,'" she wrote in the e-book.
Now, Blanchard said, she doesn't count her relationship with Nick "as love."

"However, at the time, with the vantage point of a pinhole, that’s what I thought romantic love was, what it looked like, what it required, the dynamics, and how I got it all wrong," she explained.
When Blanchard became briefly engaged to a man named Ken, who initiated a relationship with her through letters while she was in prison, she said Godejohn became "angered" after finding out.
"Basically, Nick said I was committing adultery," Blanchard said of a letter that Nick had sent her while in prison after learning of the engagement. "That he had taken my virginity (which he didn’t) and, by God’s law, we were married."
"The letter was reminiscent of his dominant role that he was obsessed with playing out when we had our internet relationship," she added. "His attempt to control me and humiliate me as his submissive for his own deviant sexual pleasure had gotten old."
Blanchard said her brief relationship with Ken showed her how “pathological” Nick was to her.
This led her to write a letter to Nick letting him know she had "moved on" from him.
Ken and Blanchard eventually split following the release of Hulu's The Act in 2019, and she eventually married Ryan Scott Anderson in 2022.
