A high school student in Washington state was arrested Wednesday after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school on the first day of classes, according to local reports.

Olympia Police Department (OPD) said no one was injured in the incident, according to local station King 5 News.

Capital High School (CHS) administration received a tip from a community member that a student may bring a loaded gun to school, according to a letter sent to parents, obtained by the station. The tip allowed law enforcement to take quick action, the letter said.

Police entered the school at 9:30 a.m. while classes were in session. The school was put on lockdown, KIRO 7 reported.

Lt. Paul Lower told the station that they received another tip from a student while officers were responding. The student told police that the suspect allegedly tucked the gun in their waistband.

Officials told King 5 that the student tried to run from police, but he was arrested quickly.

The weapon was not displayed and no students or staff were threatened, the station reported. Police left the school at 10 a.m. and classes continued as scheduled.

Lower told KIRO 7 that the suspect was booked at Thurston County juvenile detention for unlawful gun possession on a school campus and resisting arrest.

Authorities did not immediately respond to The Messenger's request for additional information.
