Two adult golden retrievers and 15 puppies dumped in an Ohio field are on their way to find new homes thanks to local volunteer groups.

The Mercer County, Ohio dog warden brought the group of dogs to the Celina Pet Center on Monday after finding the abandoned animals, WHIO reported.

The Animal Protection League of Mercer County, Ohio sprung into action, partnering with the Celina Animal Shelter and Celina Animal Hospital to provide care for the animals.

“They were dumped out in the country,” Katie Moore with the Animal Protection League of Mercer County told the news outlet.

The puppies range from three to six months old, and the volunteers think they came from three litters.

“It’s a little heartbreaking, mainly because most of these dogs have not been touched, held, or handled. They’re scared,” Moore said.

The dogs are being cared for by the organizations as they get vet work done before they can be adopted or fostered.

“Please keep in mind that most of the dumped Goldens we've had come in are scared to death,” a Facebook post from the Animal Protection League of Mercer County about possible adoptions of the found dogs read.

“It's not easy to carry a 6-month-old Golden who is terrified of the leash. Every single person in the family needs to be on board with the work it'll take to socialize and train your new dog.”

In a separate post, the protection league said, "We've received an overwhelming amount of applications to adopt the golden puppies. We appreciate everyone wanting to adopt, but we have more than enough homes wanting to adopt the puppies at this time. If you're interested in one of the adult moms, you are welcome to apply for them, Katy and Kassidy."
