Girl Scout Cookies May Taste Different in 2024. Here’s What You Need to Know About the Upcoming Cookie Season

Girl Scout cookie season is upon us, and nothing goes better with your new gym goals than Thin Mints.

The second-most wonderful time of the year is in full effect with some updates for fans of Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, and all the rest in the iconic Girl Scouts of America cookie menu when cookie sales start on Feb. 16. Prices may vary based on your area and the local council's choice, but generally range between $5 and $6 for regular to premium cookies.

Your favorite cookies might taste a little different in 2024, however. Reason?

Per their website, the Girl Scout Council contracts with one of two bakers — ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. Because there are two separate vendors for these tasty treats, the recipes are slightly different. When you're ready to order, reach out to your local Girl Scout Council to see which cookies are available in your area and which bakery makes them.

The bakery license also impacts the cookie name, which may confuse life-long Girl Scout cookie connoisseurs. Little Brownie Bakers is in its 50th year teaming up with the Girl Scouts, and ABC Bakers has been in the baking since 1937.

"That’s why some of our cookies look the same but have two different names. Whether the package says Peanut Butter Patties® or Tagalongs®, or Samoas® or Caramel deLites®, the cookies are similarly delicious," the Girl Scouts website says. "The exceptions are Thin Mints®, Adventurefuls®, and Trefoils® which are names used by both bakers."

In a Jan. 9 news release from the iconic group, GSUSA says nearly 700,000 girls will participate in the annual cookie sale. This year's theme is "Unboxing the Future," which "aims to remove social barriers that often keep girls boxed in."

Every package of Girl Scout Cookies sold puts girls one step closer to making real change in their own futures, communities, and the world," said GSUSA Chief Revenue Officer Wendy Lou.
