Gary Sinise and Lt. Dan Band to Play Free Show for Troops Ahead of 9/11 Anniversary - The Messenger

The biggest role in actor Gary Sinise’s life has led to a lifelong journey of service for the U.S. military, even though he never personally wore the uniform.

Sinise, who played the unforgettable Lt. Dan in 1994's "Forrest Gump"' , still honors troops both home and abroad.

He's playing a show Saturday evening at McKellar’s Lodge on Fort Liberty in North Carolina. The first 550 to come who show an identification card from the Department of Defense will have free entry, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

The performance is just 2 days before the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

Sinise's character Lt. Dan Taylor in "Forrest Gump" lost his legs to amputation after an injury during the Vietnam War. He’s since been an staunch supporter of veterans.

His Gary Sinise Foundation nonprofit has helped build nearly 100 homes that are especially adapted for disabled veterans, provided more than 1 million meals to US defenders overseas, and helped a plethora of military support groups.

The Lt. Dan Band has performed more than 550 free shows for veterans and active duty members since 2004. Saturday night will be free show No. 556. 

Saturday’s show will also include bounce houses for the kids, food truck offerings and beverages for purchase and a beer tent. No outside alcohol is allowed.
