Fort Jackson Drill Sergeant Found Dead on Post Triggers US Army Criminal Division Investigation
It's unknown at this time whether foul play was involved in Sgt. Allen Burtram's death
U.S. Army officials are investigating the death of a South Carolina drill sergeant after he was found dead at Fort Jackson, according to a local media report.
The body of Allen M. Burtram, 34, was found on Friday after he failed to report to work, according to a report by NBC affiliate WIS-10. Burtram, a drill sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, was pronounced dead soon after by emergency medical workers at Fort Jackson.
“Our hearts are with the family of Staff Sgt. Burtram during this extremely difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, Fort Jackson’s commanding general, according to a report by WIS-10. “We are deeply saddened at the loss of one of our own.”
It is unknown if foul play was involved.
An investigation into the circumstances of Burtram’s death conducted by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division is ongoing.
