Former NFL Player Sergio Brown Remains Missing After Mother Found Dead
The body of Myrtle Brown was found on Saturday in a creek outside her home in a Chicago suburb
The mother of a missing former pro football player died of injuries sustained in an assault, officials said.
Family members of Myrtle Brown, 73, and former NFL safety Sergio Brown reported the two missing after they weren’t able to reach either of them on the phone.
Over the weekend, when police conducted a search for the missing mother and son, they found Myrtle’s body in a creek behind her house in a Chicago suburb.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, in a statement to NBC News, said Myrtle died of “multiple injuries due to assault” and classified it as a homicide.
Sergio remains missing.
Myrtle’s sister, Sheila Simmons, told local news station WGN-TV that she last heard from her sister on Thursday.

“No one was able to reach her,” Simmons said. “Now I got the call this morning saying that she’s missing, so immediately I came out here and find out my sister is dead.”
Sergio, 35, was signed with the New England Patriots in 2010 as an undrafted free agent. He played with the Colts, Jaguars, and Bills until he retired in 2016.
The Maywood, Ill. Police Department, which is coordinating the search effort for Sergio, did not immediately return The Messenger’s request for more information.
