Former NFL Player Sergio Brown Now Missing After Mother Found Dead in Creek
After her body was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, her death is being investigated as a homicide
Police say that they cannot find a former NFL player after his mother was found dead this weekend in a creek behind her house in a Chicago suburb.
Maywood Police say that family members reached out to them on Saturday claiming they could not make contact or find Myrtle Brown, 73, or her son, former NFL safety Sergio Brown, 35.
A search was launched for Myrtle Brown and the 73-year-old was later found dead in a creek near her home in Maywood, according to police. After her body was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, her death is being investigated as a homicide.
Myrtle’s sister, Sheila Simmons, told WGN News that she last heard from Myrtle on Thursday. After hearing that her sister and nephew were both missing as of Saturday, Sergio Brown’s brother Nick shared a post on social media on Saturday asking anyone who had seen his mother or brother to contact him or the police.
Simmons says she went to her sister’s home to discover that things around the house were “out of the ordinary” according to WGN News.

“We’re going to find out what happened because it’s not normal for my sister to not answer her phone, not to respond to text messages. People have been reaching out to her since Friday. No one was able to reach her,” Sheila Simmons told WGN News. “Now I got the call this morning saying that she’s missing, so immediately I came out here and find out my sister is dead.”
Police are still investigating Myrtle’s death and are asking anyone with information to call them or report to the Maywood Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (708) 450-1787.
Sergio Brown played football at Proviso East High School in Maywood and at Notre Dame, before he later signed with the New England Patriots in 2010 as an undrafted free agent. Sergio played safety in the NFL team for six seasons with multiple teams until he retired in 2016.
The former NFL player’s Instagram account shows that he hosted a youth football camp at Proviso East High School in July this year.
Myrtle Brown recently celebrated her 73rd birthday on September 8, according to her family.
