A Florida woman arrested for allegedly fatally shooting her boyfriend claimed he strangled her after they had been drinking.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Brittany Nicole Holbrook was arrested Saturday and charged with murder after her boyfriend, 30-year-old Tyler Kinnon Nulisch, had been shot and later died.

Holbrook was arrested after deputies responded to a home regarding a medical emergency call and found Nulisch suffering from a gunshot wound to his back.

A 9 mm handgun and single bullet casing were located near Nulisch, authorities said. Nulisch was transported to the Lower Keys Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injury.

According to The Miami Herald, Holbrook allegedly first told authorities she had a gap in her memory between drinking with Nulisch and a roommate before going to bed and suddenly holding Nulisch covered in blood after he'd been shot. However, she later claimed to recall waking up in bed to Nulisch allegedly strangling her, the sheriff’s office said, per the newspaper.

A combination of not seeing any sign of strangulation and Holbrook's inconsistencies resulted in her arrest and murder charge, the newspaper reported.

As of Monday, court records indicate Holbrook is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $750,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for June 28.
