Spirit Airlines Put 6-Year-Old Flying Alone on Plane to Wrong Florida Airport
Maria Ramos, the boy's grandmother, said that the incident was one of the scariest she ever experienced
A grandmother was in a state of panic when she went to a Florida airport to pick up her 6-year-old grandson only to learn that Spirit Airlines reportedly sent the child, who was flying alone, to the wrong airport.
The boy, named Casper, was supposed to be flying to Fort Myers from Philadelphia, but ended up landing in Orlando, according to WINK News.
Maria Ramos told the news outlet that the incident was one of the scariest she ever experienced. Casper landed in Orlando, but his bag still made it to Southwest Florida International Airport.
“They told me, ‘No, he’s not on this flight. He missed his flight.’ I said, ‘No, he could not miss his flight because I have the check-in tag,” said Ramos. “I ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and I asked her, ‘Where’s my grandson? He was handed over to you at Philadelphia?’ She said, ‘No, I had no kids with me.'”
Ramos said the airline company would reimburse for driving the boy from Orlando to Fort Myers, but she still demanded answers.
“I want them to call me. Let me know how my grandson ended up in Orlando. How did that happen? Did they get him off the plane? The flight attendant after mom handed him with paperwork. Did she let him go by himself and he jumped in the wrong plane by himself?” said Ramos.
Michael Lopardi, a spokesperson with Spirit Airlines, confirmed the incident and told WINK News on Thursday that the boy “incorrectly” boarded a flight to Orlando.

“The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them. We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience,” Lopardi said.
Spirit allows children of certain ages to travel alone only on domestic flights, according to the company’s website.
