Florida Man Accused of Hot Tub Party Murder Wants Out of Jail, Says Key Witnesses Were Unreliable, Drunk, High on Ketamine and Cocaine

A Florida man who was charged with murder after allegedly shooting a guest at his drug-filled hot tub party last year now wants to be released from jail, with his attorneys claiming that one of the key witnesses originally told police she was “high and not paying attention,” according to local news reports.

Mark Anderson, 45, is accused of killing Albert Camentz, 58, at his hot tub party in Delray Beach, Florida, in September, according to local Fox affiliate WFLX.

A probable cause affidavit viewed by the Sun Sentinel says Camentz arrived at Anderson’s timeshare apartment at the invitation of the suspect’s two other guests, Susan Schneider and Jack Feinberg, a married couple. Schneider told police the couple had met up with Anderson while frequenting two Boca Raton bars that night — the Funky Biscuit and Fat Cats.

The Sun Sentinel reported Schneider told police that the couple knew Camentz through Grateful Dead cover band Crazy Fingers, who had played earlier at the Funky Biscuit. Prior to that night, Anderson and Camentz had never met.

When the group was getting ready to get into the hot tub, Anderson went into his bedroom to retrieve a towel, WFLX reported. But he allegedly came back with a gun, pointed it at Camentz, and shot.

But Camentz kept talking and moving around. Schneider called 911 about 45 minutes after he had been shot, according to the affidavit, the Sun Sentinel reported.

Camentz also told his friends that he had been feeling okay and wanted to spend the night at their house. When the trio got to their house, “Camentz became pale white and was complaining of chest pain,” the arrest report reportedly says, according to WFLX.

When first responders arrived at their home, they saw he had a gunshot wound to the chest. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police officers found a gun at Anderson’s home, along with what appeared to be a blood stain on the balcony wall, WFLX reported.

Anderson was arrested the next day on a first-degree murder charge and has since been held in the Palm Beach County jail, according to jail records.

His attorneys are now trying to get the judge to set a bond hearing to release him from jail, citing shaky and unreliable testimony from witnesses.

Feinberg told officers with the Delray Beach Police Department that he had poor memory recollection, according to a defense motion and affidavit viewed by the Sun Sentinel. And Schneider told police she was “high and not paying attention” when Camentz had been shot.

Feinberg did say he heard an explosive sound, and Schneider said she saw Anderson allegedly point a “black object” at Camentz.

“It appears that all were drinking alcohol, using cocaine, ingesting ketamine and smoking pot,” defense attorneys said, per the Sun Sentinel.

Anderson's next scheduled court date is a status check in early February, according to the Sun Sentinel.
