A 23-year-old Florida man is sitting in jail rather than the deck of a cruise ship after allegedly stabbing his family – resulting in the death of his mother – the day after Christmas, right when the family was set to leave for vacation.

On Christmas night at the family’s Port Charlotte, Florida, home, Connor Crumrine reportedly concerned his family when he allegedly told his sister to “sleep face down tonight so that he can take her to heaven and keep her from going to hell,”  according to the probable cause affidavit. His family said he would also “make a finger gun gesture towards them” during this time.

The family – which comprised his mother, Jennifer Crumrine, and his two older sisters, Kasey Crumrine and Savannah Crumrine – became concerned Connor may “cause harm to them during the night” and slept in shifts with their bedroom doors locked, according to the document.

In the morning, the mother told the sisters she would not be going on their scheduled cruise so she could take Connor to a mental health facility. While Kasey was on the phone with the facility, she heard her mother start to scream "he's stabbing me, he's stabbing me,” the document stated. Connor was allegedly stabbing his mother repeatedly in the neck, per the document.

The sister tried to pry her brother off her mother and was cut on her finger. Savannah then jumped in and “tackled” Connor and began “actively wrestling” with him to try to disarm him of the knife, according to the document.

When the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, they found Connor allegedly “on top of” Savannah in his bedroom with the two “actively engaged in a struggle” and armed with a knife.

He reportedly refused to listen to the deputies and had to be tased and physically removed to be detained, the document stated. The mother, who was in critical condition, was rushed to the hospital. Both daughters were also treated for their injuries.

The mother died from her injuries in the hospital shortly after the attack, according to investigators.

Connor was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of resisting an officer without violence. The sheriff’s office said it is working with prosecutors to update the charges to reflect the stabbing death.

Connor was issued a no-contact order against his sisters and is being held in jail on a $700,000 bond. He is set to be arraigned on Jan. 29, according to court records.
