Officials from the Cincinnati Fire Department rescued a blind and deaf 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier trapped inside an Ohio drain pipe on Sept. 16.

According to a Facebook post by Cincinnati Heavy Rescue 9, members teamed up with Engine 31 to rescue the dog, named Freddy, after he "somehow found his way into a 100-feet long PVC drain pipe."

Authorities used an acoustic sonar device to pinpoint Freddy's location inside the pipe, subsequently using water to "flush" him out.

CFD's Taylor Kuhlmann told local station WCPO that while sonar devices "are typically used to find people who are trapped under something, they work for dogs like Freddy too."

"Once he was located, and options were weighed, it was decided that flowing water could be used to 'flush' Freddy out," the post read.
