Firefighters may not save cats from trees, but they do save kittens from storm drains.

That's the case in Texas, where firefighters on Wednesday plucked a muddy kitten out of a storm drain at an Orange County Walmart, the department said on Facebook. Walmart employees heard the kitten crying and alerted authorities.

“Units arrived on the scene and were able to locate and retrieve the scared little kitten from the muddy storm drain without incident,” the department said.

Fire crews had to climb into the drain through a manhole and crawl 30 feet into the drain to retrieve the feline.

“Contrary to popular belief, it's not an everyday thing that we get to help out a kitten in a tight situation,” the department said. “And no, we don't have to save cats out of trees, but storm drains are another thing, especially in this heat wave.”
