A school board meeting in Southern California turned violent when pro- and anti-LGBTQ+ protesters clashed over the recognition of June as Pride Month.

Nearly 500 people gathered at the Glendale School District board meeting, and a brawl broke out between the two groups. CBS News reported that about 50 police officers were sent to maintain order.

While the majority of protesters were peaceful, a small group engaged in unsafe behavior. After attempts to de-escalate the situation failed, an unlawful assembly was declared by the Glendale police, according to the LA Times. Three individuals were arrested and are facing charges of obstructing officers and unlawful use of pepper spray.

Despite the violence, the board voted in favor of a resolution to recognize June as Pride Month, making it the fifth consecutive year for the Glendale School District.
