New satellite footage shows a view from above of the Canadian wildfires wreaking havoc on air quality across the United States.

The footage, captured Wednesday, by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), shows smoke billowing up in Quebec and clogging the air with pollution.

The smoke moved south into the U.S. this week, and more than 120 million people are living in areas currently under air quality warnings..

Canada has experienced an unusually high number of wildfires this year, brought on by droughts that span much of the country. There are currently 500 active fires in Canada, with 112 concentrated in Quebec, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center

Earlier this month, the impact of the wildfires made headlines in the U.S., when thick pollution turned the skies over New York yellow and millions of people were advised to stay indoors.

Now, as the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaches, officials are once again warning that the wildfires could have negative effects on people far from Canada.

"Wildfire smoke leads to hazy skies across much of the region today," the National Weather Service in New York tweeted on Thursday.

"Individuals sensitive to air quality, including the elderly and the young, should limit strenuous activities and their time outdoors."
