A woman, armed with a knife concealed behind a bouquet of flowers, carried out an attack on the wife of her ex-lover last year in the UK. The perpetrator, now sentenced to over 22 years in prison, is identified as 44-year-old Clare Bailey.

Bailey disguised herself with a red wig, sunglasses, and a COVID-style face mask, and approached a residence on the afternoon of June 23, 2022, per a news release from the North Yorkshire Police. Clutching a bouquet of flowers, she sprung into action when a 43-year-old woman, referred to as "Emma" by the police, opened the door. Bailey swiftly produced a knife from behind the flowers and started to stab and slash the woman.

Emma attempted to defend herself, suffering injuries to her neck, chest, stomach, and arms in the process. Her teenage daughter tried to intervene but was stopped by the fear that Bailey might redirect the attack towards her.

It was later revealed that Bailey had been romantically involved with Emma's husband, a relationship that had concluded several months before the attack, a fact which Bailey found difficult to accept.

Following the assault, Bailey managed to escape but was arrested by the police two days later. She pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted murder.

Emma underwent extensive surgery and had a hospital stay exceeding a month after the attack, during which she could not see her children. In her statement, Emma revealed, "I am still in pain every day and need painkillers to help with this. I use crutches to get around as I am still unable to fully use my right leg and for longer distances, I have a wheelchair. I've lost all my independence. I couldn't return to work, we now depend on disability benefits, I've lost my whole life, really. I need help with everything I do."
