Residents were evacuated in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Tuesday after a fast-moving brush fire threatened homes.

The fire was moving east toward the McDowell Mountain Regional Park. It had grown to more than 2,500 acres early on Wednesday.

The Diamond Fire began as a small brush fire and grew quickly. More than 200 firefighters were working to put it out.

The Scottsdale Fire Department said a shelter was set up at Cactus Shadows High School.

It was unclear how many people were under evacuation orders.

A plane was dumping fire retardant on the flames.

Air operations were being affected by people flying drones over the fire zone, according to the Arizona Forestry Service.

A media update was scheduled for Wednesday morning to update the fire.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
