‘Day of Rage’ Protesters Chant ‘Resistance Is Justified’ in NYC After Hamas Terror Attacks on Israel
An organizer told The Messenger, 'We are here to show that New York City stands in total solidarity with the Palestinian people'
Hundreds of protesters chanted, "Resistance is justified when people are occupied" during a pro-Palestinian "Day of Rage" rally in New York City's Times Square on Friday — a week after Hamas massacred 1,300 Israelis in a terrorist attack.
Demonstrators carried signs saying "Resistance against occupation is a human right" and chanted slogans that also included, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."
At one point, the swelling crowd also chanted, “Intifada, intifada, long live the intifada!" using the Arabic word for uprisings in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip that killed more than 5,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis between 1987 and 2005.
Friday's protest was organized as the Israel Defense Forces prepared for a potential invasion of Gaza, where Hamas organized and launched its surprise, Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel.
IDF warplanes have launched hundreds of airstrikes on Gaza, killing about 1,800 Palestinians.
Israel has also shut off electricity and water, and cut off shipments of food, fuel and medicine to the densely-populated territory.

A rally organizer, Kaleem Hawa, told The Messenger, "We are here to show that New York City stands in total solidarity with the Palestinian people and the people of Gaza who are suffering right now."
When asked about the widespread condemnation of the grisly violence inflicted by the Hamas terror group when it attacked Israeli civilians and ignited the ongoing war, Hawa, 39, called the question "insulting."
"We have our own martyred Palestinians now in the hundreds and thousands and we are here to uplift their memories and their resistance," he said.
"We’re here to show total solidarity with the Palestinian cause."
