A judge on Friday set a $5 million cash bond for the Colorado teen accused of shooting a woman in the head as many as 20 times using an AR-15 in 2021, nearly ensuring that the now 17-year-old will stay behind bars until trial, according to a report.

Remi Cordova, now 17, is being tried as an adult after he was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Pam Cabriales, 32, on February 20, 2021.

Cabriales was heading home from dinner when she accidentally hit the back of the car that Cardova, who was 14 at the time, was sitting in. The teen then stepped out of the car,  pulled out his rifle, and shot her in the head, according to prosecutors.

Cabirales’s brother, Alex Cabriales, who has long been advocating for justice for his sister praised the judge’s Friday decision.

“I think the judges, regarding this case, are making the right decision,” he said outside the courtroom, according to local news station KDVR. “They’re doing their job. Our communities can be safer with him in jail.”

Nehsan Johnson, who was the driver of that car and 18 at the time, has been sentenced 35 years in prison for speeding away after the shooting.

Cordova will appear again in court on January 25. He could face up to 40 years in prison if convicted for the murder.
