Three people were killed and one was injured during a shooting in a rural Colorado county on Monday, following reports of a "high-risk situation" in the area.

The deadly shooting took place in Custer County, which has a population of 4,700 people.

The Custer County Sheriff's Office said in a Monday night media conference that authorities were in an afternoon stand-off with 45-year-old Hanme K. Clarke after a report of shots fired during a neighbor dispute, local news radio KRDO reported.

Law enforcement officials issued a shelter-in-place order for the area around 2:20 p.m., which was lifted hours later.

Once authorities were able to enter the location where the suspect was during the stand-off, they found three dead — two men and a woman — and one critically injured, according to the sheriff's office, per the news outlet.

The injured person was flown to a hospital in Colorado Springs, per the news radio.

Somehow, Clarke managed to slip by authorities during the stand-off and is currently at large, the sheriff's office said.
