The alleged gunman in a mass shooting Monday that left three people dead and another critically injured in rural Colorado was apprehended Tuesday

Hanme K. Clark was arrested in New Mexico just before 3 p.m., the Custer County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. Police identified Clark as the suspect and released a photo of him earlier in the day.

Law enforcement officials issued a shelter-in-place Monday afternoon for rural Custer County, which has a population of 4,700, due to a "high-risk situation." The all-clear was issued just after 10:15 p.m.

The sheriff's office said authorities engaged in a stand-off with Clark after a report of shots fired during a neighbor dispute. Custer County Sheriff Rich Smith said it took 22 minutes for deputies to arrive at the scene, which gave time for Clark to escape, according to local station Denver 7.

Authorities later discovered the three deceased victims — two men and a woman — and the critically injured woman. The Custer County Coroner identified the three as 63-year-old Rob Geers, 73-year-old Beth Wade and 58-year-old James Daulton.

The injured woman, Patty Daulton, is being treated at a trauma center for her injuries. Smith said she is "improving in condition" at a press conference.

The four victims own property neighboring Clark's property, the sheriff said.
