Epstein Accomplice Went to Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding Instead of Deposition: Docs

Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly claimed she couldn't be deposed because her mom was sick. Then she was pictured at the former first daughter's nuptials

Jeffrey Epstein's accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton's wedding after dodging a deposition by claiming she was leaving the U.S. "with no plans to return," according to court records made public Friday.

The British socialite was served with a 2009 subpoena to be deposed in a civil case against Epstein, lawyers for Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre wrote in 2016.

The deposition was scheduled following "extensive discussion" over a "convenient time and place" and after Giuffre agreed to a confidentiality agreement drafted by Maxwell's lawyer, according to the newly unsealed document.

But at the "eleventh hour," Maxwell's lawyer told the other side that her mother was "very ill and that consequently Maxwell was leaving the country with no plans to return," Giuffre's lawyers said.

Although the deposition was canceled, Maxwell was later photographed at Clinton's wedding in Rhinebeck, New York, "confirming the suspicion that she was indeed still in the country and willing to say anything to avoid her deposition," the lawyers wrote.

The former first daughter's July 31, 2010, nuptials with Marc Mezvinsky at a mansion modeled on the Palace of Versailles in France cost an estimated $3 million, CNBC reported at the time.

The court papers detailing Maxwell's avoidance of the deposition were released as part of a massive document dump ordered last month by a federal judge in Manhattan who ruled that the names of more than 150 people tied to Giuffre's settled case against Maxwell had to be unsealed.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2021 of helping recruit teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein, who died by suicide in jail while awaiting trial in 2019.

The late financier cultivated a network of powerful and prominent associates, including Clinton's father, former President Bill Clinton.

Epstein reportedly visited the Clinton White House at least 17 times and after leaving office, Clinton flew on Epstein's private jets numerous times, according to trial testimony.

A Clinton spokesperson has directed The Messenger to a 2019 statement, which said: “President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago.”
