A car filled with several hundred rounds of ammunition caught fire and exploded on a highway in New Hampshire on Saturday.

Officials responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically before crashing on Interstate 93 Northbound in Bow, New Hampshire, state police said in a news release.

The car hit the center median, ricocheted across all lanes of traffic and struck another vehicle, according to police. It continued into the woods, where it struck several trees and caught on fire.

Three occupants escaped from the vehicle. One was taken to a local hospital with significant, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupant of the struck vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Officials shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 93 as the fire grew in size. Southbound lanes were later shut down as well due to the rounds of ammunition exploding.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire. Southbound lanes and the high-speed lane on the northbound side reopened. The remaining two northbound lanes were closed for a significant period of time, police said.

The vehicle's occupants were not identified pending further investigation. One of the occupants was arrested on several warrants and additional charges may be filed, according to police.
