A California man was arrested this week for allegedly yelling that someone had a gun at a Southern California mall and causing a panic.

Rancho Cucamonga resident Angel Marin, 44, was arrested for making a false threat after allegedly yelling “gun” and “he has a gun” last month at a mall in Ontario, California.

KTLA reported that Marin’s alleged outburst caused a panic within the mall, sending people running for cover. Law enforcement officers later determined that there wasn’t actually a threat to public safety.

Marin was identified by security cameras inside the mall. He was arrested Sunday and booked into a local jail, KTLA reported. He is set to appear in court on Wednesday and is being held on $130,000 bail.

Making false threats to law enforcement can result in a sentence of up to five years in federal prison as well as state and local charges, according to the FBI.
