As thousands of people remain trapped at Burning Man, some festival-goers are sharing videos revealing just how bad things are in Black Rock City.

In a video shared to TikTok on Saturday, would-be partiers can be seen standing in thick mud that reaches their shins, while waiting for breakfast.

Burning Man is an annual event where festival goers come together to build a temporary city “dedicated to community, art, self-expression and self-reliance,” according to its official website.

The festival’s name comes from its ending event, where thousands of people watch as a giant wooden effigy of a man is set on fire.

The festival typically attracts tens of thousands of attendees and this year was no exception. It’s estimated that 70,000 people descended on the Black Rock Desert in Nevada prior to the bad weather setting in.

Festival goers have been advised to conserve their food and water, while many tents were ruined by the flood waters. In other videos posted online, people can be seen with plastic bags wrapped around their feet as they trudge through thick and gluey sludge.

In addition to the discomfort many attendees are experiencing, there are also potential health issues emerging in the desert.

Comedian Chris Rock, who was in attendance but was able to escape with Diplo, said that the toilets at Burning Man hadn’t been serviced in days.

"From what I understand, because of the flooding, the port-o-potties reportedly can’t be emptied," he wrote on Instagram.

A source, speaking to the Daily Mail, said that some attendees were being treated for hypothermia as the rain continued to pour on people sleeping in tents.

At least one death is connected to the festival, according to the Associated Press.
