Two men have pleaded guilty to burglary charges after a retired police officer thwarted their plans to rob several properties in the area.

Nabil Abozid, 47, and Nigel Williams, 50, were at their third home of the night after traveling from London to Tunbridge Wells, England, on Oct. 21, 2022, when the pair accidentally rang the doorbell of a former police officer, as reported by KentLive.

The men left the house, but the former officer suspected their motives so he followed them.

When Abozid and Williams entered the next house, they were chased out by a woman. As the men fled, the former officer called out to some workmen in the area to stop them.

One of the workmen was able to trip Abozid, and the workman and the officer restrained him for a short time until he broke free. However, he was caught and arrested a short time later by active police officers, as reported by ITV News.

Williams was able to make it back to London, but he was arrested by police the next day after he continued to call Abozid’s phone which had been seized by the officers.

Police discovered that the pair had broken into two properties prior to knocking on the former officer’s door, however, they were not able to steal anything.

Abozid and Williams were charged with three burglaries, and both pleaded guilty on Wednesday. Abozid was sentenced to three years and three months in jail while Williams received a sentence of three years and ten months.
