Prosecutors Want Bryan Kohberger’s Idaho Murder Trial to Take Place When Students Aren’t on Campus
Prosecutors said they expected the trial could disrupt classes at nearby Moscow High School
Prosecutors have asked for Bryan Kohberger's murder trial to be held over the summer of 2024, so that students at the University of Idaho and at a high school near the courthouse won't be affected.
In a Thursday court filing, prosecutors said they expected the trial would draw a large media presence and could disrupt classes at nearby Moscow High School.
Kohberger, 28, was accused of killing four University of Idaho students last fall in a case that garnered national media attention.
Prosecutors allege Kohberger killed Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves in a brutal knife attack after stalking some of the victims beforehand.
Moscow High School is just across the street from the Latah County Courthouse, while the University of Idaho campus is only about a mile away.
A not guilty plea was entered on Kohberger's behalf in May.
He has argued he was not in Moscow in the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2022, when the grisly murders took place, despite security footage that appeared to show his car driving through the area.
Investigators also identified Kohberger's DNA on a knife sheath that was left behind at the crime scene, a finding his attorney's have disputed.
Kohberger, who was a Ph.D student in criminology at Washington State University in Pullman, was arrested at his parents' Pennsylvania home about six weeks after the killings.
