Attorneys for Bryan Kohberger made several requests in a pretrial hearing on Tuesday, signifying that they are mounting a vigorous defense of the murder charges against him.

Perhaps the most significant defense motion was their request for the training records of three officers who investigated the murders of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, 21; Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20 and Ethan Chapin, 20.

Kohberger, 28, is accused of stabbing the four college students to death at their off-campus apartment in Moscow, Idaho on November 13, 2022. He has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder.

His defense attorneys specifically want the records of one of the officers who assisted at the search at 1122 King Road, where the murders were committed. Defense attorney Ann Taylor said in court on Tuesday that the officer also conducted follow-up investigations and collected evidence.

The defense also asked for the records of two officers who interviewed witnesses — both before and after Kohberger's arrest.

Wearing a suit and tie, the 28-year-old former graduate student listened intently to the proceedings, but did not speak.

After hearing the testimony, Latah County District Court Judge John Judge said he would take the motion under advisement and would issue a ruling at a later date.

While Kohberger has pleaded not guilty to the murders, the prosecution filed documents on Monday notifying the court that they would seek the death penalty against him. His trial is scheduled for October.

Kohberger is being held without bond. His attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
