Suzanne Morphew’s Husband Barry: Where He Is Now That Missing Colorado Mom’s Body Has Been Found

A murder charge against Barry Morphew, 55, for the killing of his wife was dismissed last year, before the mother of two's remains were discovered last week

Barry Morphew has long denied his involvement, telling ABC News earlier this year the couple had a “wonderful life, a wonderful marriage,” despite reports their relationship was rocky and Suzanne was having an affair with an old high school classmate.Chaffee County Sheriff's Office; Facebook

The remains of Suzanne Morphew, the Colorado mother of two last seen alive on Mother's Day 2020, were discovered last week, authorities revealed Wednesday – more than a year after a murder charge against her husband was dismissed.

Barry Morphew, 55, was initially charged for his wife's killing and arrested in May 2021.

Authorities have said Barry was the last person to see his spouse before she set out on a Mother's Day bike ride on May 10, 2020 and never returned home.

But prosecutors later moved to dismiss the charges against him after a judge blocked them from presenting most of their key witnesses at trial.

District Attorney Linda Stanley said at the time the decision was also made because investigators needed more time to find Suzanne's body.

But the search for Suzanne ended on Friday when the skeletal remains of the 49-year-old mother were recovered in the remote desert field of Moffat, which sits about a 30-minute drive from the family's home in Colorado's Salida area.

Suzanne reportedly had been having an affair with another man before she vanished.

Barry has denied having any involvement in his wife's disappearance and his daughters have stood by him, telling Good Morning America earlier this year they had no doubt about their father's innocence.

"It's very hurtful to lose your reputation and your integrity," Barry said.

Where does Barry Morphew live now?

Despite the dismissal of the charges against him, Barry lived under suspicion from neighbors in the family's rural hometown of Salida, his attorney told a judge last year.

Attorney Iris Eytan said in July 2022 her client was moving to Denver to help him and his family "return the focus to finding Suzanne," according to the Denver Gazette.

News of Barry's move came as a judge placed him on one year of supervised probation after he pleaded guilty to a felony count of forgery for using Suzanne's name to vote for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, the Gazette reported.

Barry was also ordered to complete 32 hours of community service.

Can Barry Morphew be charged again?

Barry was initially charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and attempting to influence a public servant.

The charges were later dismissed without prejudice, meaning prosecutors could pursue charges against him again, if they decide to do so.

Last year, Eytan said the allegations against her client were "false from the beginning" and argued no physical evidence linked Barry to the case.

In May, Barry filed a $15 million lawsuit against prosecutors and investigators, alleging officials had a “a political agenda" for locking him up "in response to a media frenzy that prosecutors themselves helped create."

What has Barry Morphew said about his wife's remains being found?

In a statement Wednesday, Eytan said Barry was with his daughters after learning Suzanne's body was found and added that they were all "struggling with immense shock and grief."

"They had faith that their wife and mom would walk back into their lives again," the statement says. "The news is heart breaking."

According to Eytan, neither prosecutors nor investigators notified the couple's two daughters that Suzanne's remains were recovered.

"From what we know, Barry is as innocent as he was from Day 1," the statement continues.

"DA Stanley and law enforcement got it wrong. We hope the authorities will quickly admit their wrongful persecution of Barry, an innocent man, to treat the Morphew's like the victims they are, and charge the person(s) responsible for Suzanne's killing."
