Arizona School Van Crash Leaves 1 Dead, Several Middle School Athletes Seriously Hurt

A van carrying a junior high sports team to an event in Arizona on Wednesday was involved in a crash, which left one person dead and several students injured.

Police say the driver of the van died after the vehicle collided with another car around 3 p.m. in the Gila River Indian community.

"Upon arrival, they discovered the tragic death of a single male occupant in one vehicle of the two vehicles involved in the incident," the Gila River Police Department said, according to KSAZ.

Police said that several of the students inside the van were injured and many were taken to the hospital, but none had life-threatening injuries.

Authorities didn’t indicate the cause of the crash.

The condition of the injured students was not immediately clear.
