A Tennessee mother is warning other parents about the dangers of balloons after her 7-year-old daughter tragically died while popping birthday balloons last weekend.

Channa Kelly, mother of the late Alexandra Hope Kelly, told WLTV that she left her daughter alone in the living room while she was popping balloons with scissors. When she returned, she allegedly found Alexandra facedown with one of the popped balloons over her head.

Clifton, Tennessee police are reportedly investigating the incident.

“I want people to know so they can be aware,” she told the news outlet. “That’s what took my baby, it was her birthday balloon. It’s hard to comprehend.”

"She was absolutely amazing, just the sweetest little girl with a big heart. She was amazing.”

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that balloons are the leading cause of suffocation deaths in children.
