Two people are dead after a Philadelphia TV news helicopter crashed in New Jersey on Tuesday evening.

The WPVI-TV helicopter crashed in the Pine Barrens area as it headed back to the city from the Jersey Shore, the TV station reported. The chopper went down in Wharton State Forest near Quaker Bridge Atsion Road and Mullica Hill Road in Washington Township.

Access to the scene was reportedly difficult due to its location in the woods.

A pilot and a photographer on board died.

The station did not release their names because family members had not been contacted yet.

The station said, “They have a long history with our station and have been working as part of the Action News team for years.”

News reporter Katherine Scott called it "Devastating news" in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The helicopter was a 2013 American Eurocopter AS-350A-STAR. WPVI-TV leases it from North Carolina-based U.S. Helicopters Inc.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
