A San Antonio woman spends her days crafting dog beds made out of old fabric scraps.

Joan Potter, 93, donates the dog beds to animal shelters around the region, like the San Antonio Humane Society and the Paul Jolly Center for pet adoptions.

“I just am happy to do it for them and to know that some dog is going to be comfortable,” Potters told KSAT12

Potter said she uses leftover fabric scraps from her time at the Greater San Antonio Quilting Guild to make the beds. She begins making the beds in her room and pays close attention to her work as she doesn’t want loose threads to get stuck in the canine’s paws.

She said just like humans, dogs can have achy joints from laying on hard surfaces. It’s her priority to ensure the dogs are as comfortable as possible.

“You know they have feelings. They can’t talk to us in our language, but look at their eyes and the expression on their face. They all have expressions and I just love them,” Potters said.

Potter said she occasionally gets tired but doesn’t let her age slow her down.

“I get tired, but I’ll just keep doing it until I can’t do it anymore,” Potters said.

Sometimes, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ help Potter craft the beds and deliver around 30 to 40 to the shelters each month.

“It makes me feel so good to know that they’re not going to be laying on cement or a hard floor or in the winter,” Potters told the news outlet.
