Audio of Florida 13-Year-Old’s 911 Call After Allegedly Stabbing Mother Released: ‘She’s Dead, Miss’
Derek Rosa told the dispatcher that he allegedly sent photos of the crime to his online friend
The recording of a Florida teen’s 911 call after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death next to his baby sister's crib has been released by police.
Derek Rosa, 13, has been accused of murdering his mother Irina Garcia, 39, on Oct. 12 in their Hialeah apartment. The victim's body was found next to the crib of a sleeping 14-day-old newborn, who police said was unharmed.
Dispatchers received the 911 call from Rosa at about 11:30 p.m. Some parts of the audio when the teen talks are redacted, but WTVJ reported that at one point the dispatcher is heard asking, "You stabbed her neck? OK, where else did you stab her other than cutting her neck?"
Rosa then appears to tell the dispatcher that he does not know his address, so while he searches for an envelope, the dispatcher attempts to get more information. The dispatcher is heard saying, “I need to know if your mother is breathing.” Rosa appears to respond, “She’s dead, miss.” The dispatcher says, “OK, and why did you do that?” Rosa appears to reply, “There’s blood all over the floor.”
The dispatcher learns that Rosa had allegedly planned to shoot himself with one of his stepfather’s guns, but did not end up firing the weapon.
He later tells the dispatcher that he allegedly sent photos he took after the killing to a friend.

“I don’t know his real name because he’s an online friend who I play with a lot,” he appears to tell the dispatcher. “I didn’t delete the pictures off my phone, but I sent them to him, and I told him that I was sorry and goodbye. Goodbye to him.”
The teen also appears to disclose that his father is a truck driver who is out of town, but on his way home. Rosa says his father has been calling his phone and his mother’s. "I'm really sad, I'm really sad," the teen appears to say.
When police arrive at the scene, Rosa appears to ask the dispatcher, “Miss, are they gonna kill me?” The dispatcher tells him, “No, we’re here to help you, we’re going to help your family.”
Rosa was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after his mother was found with multiple stab wounds. WPLG reported that the teen had been an honors student and had no history of mental health problems.
Police said they were “dumbfounded” by the crime, and have not been able to identify a motive.
Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said after the killing, "This is heartbreaking, I never would have imagined something like this, a 13-year-old child taking his mother's life. It's a very sad story."
