A North Carolina community was rocked by six murders and a police shooting in 24 hours Wednesday into Thursday.

Five people shot and killed in a home, another was found stabbed to death and an armed man was shot by police.

Police say the three fatal incidents do not appear to be related.

Local media reported the stabbing victim was found inside a mobile home in Clinton, Sampson County. The person was reportedly a seasonal worker from Mexico.

No further details were available, with The Messenger's request for further comment not responded to at time of publishing.

Late Wednesday, also in Clinton, the bodies of five people aged between 30 and 80 were discovered at a residence that police said was a suspected stash drug house. It was not believed the two incidents were connected.

Meanwhile, another person was shot dead, this time by police.

A local reporter said the man had pointed a gun at officers, but no further details were available.

Sampson County Sheriff's Department told WRAL that last year the area saw three homicides compared to the eight so far this year.
