A battalion made up of female Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat troops has eliminated approximately 100 Hamas terrorists, according to its commander.

Israeli Caracal Battalion commander Lt.-Col. Or Ben-Yehuda praised her squad’s bravery amid the ongoing war with the terror group, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

"There are no more doubts about female combat soldiers, who have triumphed in every encounter with terrorists,” Ben-Yehuda reportedly said. “At present, we are responsible for 11 towns and are preparing for any potential ground maneuvers to ensure the safety of the southern Gaza border area and the Egyptian border."

Ben-Yehuda told The Jerusalem Post that female soldiers under her command have made significant contributions to the ongoing fight against Hamas. She says they have saved many lives by administering medical care and even conducting helicopter landings while under fire.

She also says their effectiveness should put to rest any doubts critics may have about female combat soldiers in Israel’s army. "Their training and performance on the battlefield have erased any doubts. They fought bravely, saved lives, and emerged as heroes," Ben-Yehuda told The Jerusalem Post.

Shortly after Hamas launched their deadly surprise attack on Israel, killing thousands, Ben-Yehuda and her battalion reportedly rushed to a post on the nation's border with Egypt to defend the area amid reports that terrorists had infiltrated.

They encountered a convoy of almost 50 terrorists and snipers, according to The Jerusalem Post. Ben-Yehuda’s Caracal Battalion then reportedly successfully eliminated some of the terrorists, causing other terrorists to flee.

For nearly four hours afterward, Hamas terrorists continued to engage Ben-Yehuda and her comrades in firefights. After hours of “intense combat,” reinforcements reportedly arrived and helped secure a base by clearing it of terrorists.

Wounded soldiers were evacuated while the rest of Ben-Yehuda’s battalion remained to defend the base for a total of 14 hours. The base is now fully secured according to The Jerusalem Post.

A "caracal," for which Ben-Yehuda’s battalion is named, is a medium-sized wild lynx that is native to Africa. The Smithsonian National Zoo calls the animals "agile hunters."
