Watch Reneé Rapp and Jennifer Hudson Team Up to Sing Destiny’s Child Ballad
This marks the second duet the pop stars have performed live on 'The Jennifer Hudson Show'
It was the second time Reneé Rapp and Jennifer Hudson sang together, but it was hard to tell who was more excited when Rapp appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Monday to promote her new album, Snow Angel.
When Hudson asked Rapp who her girl group idols are, Rapp admitted that she was once part of a group called Daddy’s Little Girls, a name she said she finds “weird” in retrospect. She then told Hudson Destiny’s Child was “my everything.”
Hudson concurred and asked Rapp which of the group’s songs were her favorite. Hudson picked the 2001 hit “Dangerously in Love." A visibly giddy Rapp proclaimed her own love for the ballad, prompting Hudson to say, “You look like you want to sing it with me right now.”
The two excitedly grabbed their microphones as Hudson solicited the help of her pianist, Charles, as the two performed a keys-only cover of the song, alternating verses between their powerhouse vocals and showing off their shared ability to soulfully riff up and down musical scales.
Back in January, Rapp appeared on Hudson’s talk show for the first time. After informing the Dreamgirls star that she was one of Rapp’s top three musical influences -- along with Beyoncé and Jazmine Sullivan -- the two sang together for the first time on a duet of Sullivan’s single “In Love with Another Man.”
Both duets concluded with Hudson praising Rapp, saying, “You better sing!”
