Toby Keith Says Stomach Cancer Is Shrinking, Hopes to Tour This Fall
The country music legend first shared that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021
Country music star Toby Keith is sharing some hopeful news regarding his stomach cancer diagnosis — and it sounds like fans may be able to see him perform again sooner than later.
"I'm feeling pretty good," Keith reportedly told The Oklahoman at a gala earlier this month. "Basically, everything is in a real positive trend."
The 61-year-old first shared that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021. Keith is currently receiving immunotherapy treatment as well as seeing a nutritionist and is feeling "better" these days, noting that his tumor has shrunk by a third and his blood tests have noticeably improved.
However, Keith noted, "You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare."
The "Should've Been a Cowboy" singer hopes to be on the road again by the end of the year, but plans on taking baby steps back into the world of performing.
"I'm about another eight weeks from my last scan," Keith shared. "So I expect next time I look for that tumor to be even less — and I've only got one that's shown up."
While acknowledging he's "got more wind" at the moment, he revealed he's "thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours."
