Tina Fey ‘Tried’ to Reunite the Original Plastics for New ‘Mean Girls’ Movie
Just ahead of the premiere of the 'Mean Girls' movie musical, writer and producer Tina Fey revealed that she tried to reunite the OG cast
The movie adaption of the Broadway musical Mean Girls hits theaters Friday, and creator Tina Fey has opened up about why the original Plastics didn't reunite for the new film.
She spoke briefly to the New York Times about the production's attempts to bring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert together.
"They're busy people, so it didn't come together, but we tried, and we all love each other," Fey said in the interview published Wednesday.
But what roles would they have played? "We'll never know," Fey teased.
The 30 Rock actor also said she hasn't thought too much about the possibility of a Mean Girls sequel with the original cast all these years later.
"To me, part of why the stakes are so high in the story is because everyone's so young and feelings are huge, love is huge and friendship is huge in a way [that it isn't with] middle-age moms," Fey explained. "I love writing about middle-aged people, but I don't know."
The Mean Girls movie musical premieres in theaters Friday and stars Reneé Rapp as Regina George alongside Angourie Rice, Auli'i Cravalho, Bebe Wood, Avantika, Christopher Briney, Jaquel Spivey, Jenna Fischer, Ashley Park and Jon Hamm, as well as Fey and Tim Meadows, who are reprising their respective roles as North Shore High's math teacher and school principal.
