TikToker Sam Barber Reveals His Craziest Fan Experience (Exclusive)
Up-and-coming country star Sam Barber spoke with The Messenger about how TikTok is changing the music industry
Sam Barber is sharing one of his craziest fan experiences.
On Sunday, the country music up-and-comer spoke with The Messenger backstage at In the Mix, TikTok's first music festival, about one of the wildest moments in his early career.
"There was one kid that drove 17 hours to one of the shows," Barber recalled. "He [asked for] a tattoo and went and got it that night. Now, it's become kind of a thing — people like my signature on their body, which is crazy."
"That's commitment that I couldn't do," he joked.
Barber also opened up to The Messenger about his view on how TikTok is changing the music industry — and how it's bringing country to younger social media users who may not have been fans of the genre before.
"I've seen so many different young, amazing artists that probably would never even want to pick up a guitar go, 'Maybe I'll post something.' It's kind of what I did," he recalled of his early days on the platform. "There's so many more artists that probably didn't think they could sing or didn't think they could do it."

The "Straight and Narrow" singer,, who is also set to embark on his sold-out Till I Return Tour in January, believes that TikTok has opened its users' hearts to country music, especially older tracks that have new life breathed into them after going viral — Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" and "I'm A Survivor" by Reba have both been featured in thousands of creator videos on the platform.
"[Country music has become] way bigger in the past year or two and I think that's a lot from — everyone's doing music on TikTok, from what I've seen, and it just has grown it so much ... and has been put in front of so many people," Barber said. "It's just grown itself."
